World Elephant Day was established in 2011 by two Canadian filmmakers, Michael Clark and Patricia Sima and Sivaporn Dardarananda, the Secretary-General of the Elephant Reintroduction Foundation in Thailand. In the year 2012, August 12 was declared as the first celebration of World Elephant Day. This initiative was started to raise awareness about the dwindling population of species around the world. Additionally, it is also to increase consciousness about the need to protect the existing spaces of elephants.
Unfortunately, the human race is to be blamed as these animals are already facing tumultuous threats of extinction. They are already bearing the brunt of inadequate habitats and are seeking comfort in cityscapes.
