Three kids, two full-time working parents. Our life wasn’t complicated enough. We needed a dog.

Actually, the last thing we needed was a dog, but the kids desperately wanted one, and I felt a yearning for a fluffy animal who would look at me with puppy-dog eyes rather than a teenage scowl.

My husband caved, and through Craigslist we adopted a nine-month-old goldendoodle, a pup armed with the intelligence of the poodle and the sweetness of the golden retriever (a crossbreed so popular and trendy that I’m sure some readers are rolling their eyes right now).
Indie came from a family with a small breeding business on a farm near Redding. They had intended to keep her as their own, but realized with six adults dogs already living in their house, a seventh was too much.
